BMBF Research Project WiWiEn

Customer

WiWiEn is a research project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). CosmoCode, as the consortium leader, undertook the technical implementation of the digital knowledge platform. Scientific research was conducted by the Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation and Automation (IFF) and Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (h_da).

Project

The project aims to make it easier for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to access AI-based business models. These companies face the challenge of navigating a rapidly changing work environment characterized by digitalization and globalization. Although artificial intelligence (AI) has been adopted in many areas, many medium-sized companies in Germany have not yet fully realized the potential for service or product innovations. Often, these companies lack personnel with the necessary expertise and the means to hire external specialists. The WiWiEn research project aims to provide easier access to relevant knowledge and applicable methods, offering a valuable resource for professionals and executives who wish to actively shape the transformation.

Implementation

CosmoCode developed a DokuWiki-based solution for the implementation of the digital knowledge platform WiWiEn.

A series of process assistance systems guide users in analyzing and optimizing their own business models. The platform offers a variety of interactive tools and visualizations that help users identify, analyze, and develop AI-based business models.

The content is organized into phases, modules, and lessons, allowing users to skip sections selectively based on their knowledge level. Progress indicators visualize individual learning and work progress at both phase and module levels.

Knowledge components such as best practices, use case examples, methods and tools, as well as literature references and further links, support users in applying what they have learned in practice.

A KI-Chat was also integrated, serving as an alternative entry point and allowing users to access platform content through natural language interaction. The chat uses a Large Language Model (LLM) and leverages the platform's content to generate informed responses. Sources used are cited, encouraging users to read further.
